About Caterpillar Kids

Caterpillar Kids was established in August 2021 in Parteen Village, Co. Clare by Natasha Berty. Natasha has worked in childcare for the past 10 years and holds a degree in Early Childhood Care and Education. It has been a lifelong dream of hers to open a high-quality early years and afterschool service. In 2021, that dream finally became a reality and resulted in the establishment of Caterpillar Kids.

Parteen Village is a thriving community where many people have chosen to settle with their young families and it had been lacking the childcare services needed to support modern family life until the establishment of our service. Our setting provides full day preschool, the free preschool scheme (ECCE), breakfast club and afterschool service including drop off and collection to Parteen National School. We are Tusla registered and open from 7:30am-6:30pm Monday to Friday, 51 weeks of the year.

As well as the free preschool scheme (ECCE), we also run the National Childcare Scheme (NCS) which offers both pre-school and school age children a subsidy on childcare fees where eligible. The service provides all meals for full day care in line with our healthy eating policy and specific allergy/dietary restrictions can be catered for.

Our Ethos

At Caterpillar Kids, it is important to us that all children are able to access our pre-school and to feel included and secure in our environment. We strive to form a learning experience that allows children to develop at their own pace and stage. We encourage children to express themselves, to communicate and to solve problems. Our foundation is in our name; we see children’s learning like that of the caterpillar, making their own way to thrive and become a butterfly. We are here to support, teach and to guide your children to thrive and reach their potential in a way that is natural and child-led.

In our service, our focus is on the children and we aim to provide a holistic learning experience that is child-centred, child-led and play-based. We respond to the individual needs of each child and provide a learning environment that supports all paces. We use emergent learning as the guiding principle for our curriculum in coordination with Aistear and Síolta. The Aistear curriculum framework sees all children as competent, capable learners. It acts as a guide for educators to help provide enjoyable and challenging learning experiences for the children in their care. It is play-based and fosters rich, emergent learning opportunities to support child development. The service also incorporates Síolta, the national quality framework to promote quality across all areas of practice.
